We are gapped in our Picking at the moment ....we lost two fields to the Fruit Fly Quarantine and are cleaning-off the fields we have left for Fall Harvest.

I will continue to help Annie learn of all of Your needs. She has been on our Sales desk many times over the years and at one time did the Onions for the summer. See Annie's contact info below and on the Price Sheet.
We continue to pack onions and let us know if you are ready for some.

We love seeing our melons when we visit other cities!
Here is Jeff in front of our bin at Trader Joe's in Pebble Beach, California!

Saturday, June 19, 2010

This week on the Ranch- Week of June 21st!

Delightful.........Watermelon, Pepper and Onion buyers:

Please note the "level priced playing field" for Red seedless for the next week!

Coachella Watermelons are most likely going to finish on Tuesday, June 22nd. The last of the 5's are somewhat covered but there are a couple of 6's still to be picked and loaded there this week. Look for "clean-up" specials~

Bakersfield Seedless Watermelons: Picking 60% 5's and we are picking up steam as more fields are ripe. Some major Chains/Retailers requested a special sized Red seedless 6 so we are now making 6's as a 10-12 lb melon and the 9lb melons go into the size 7's at special pricing with 8's. These should work for some of you and we will get load volume.

Bakersfield Red Seeded: We have load volume in stock on all sizes of Regular seeded and will STOP-PICK on these, Monday, to clean the floor. Many Retailers and others still are buying the old crop Mexican Fruit.

Bakersfield Yellow Flesh Watermelons: Still "steady-as-she-goes" and we are just now getting organized for more volume.

Bakersfield Baby/Mini Watermelons: These melons cut with 90% size 6 and 7. The very popular 8's and 9's are hard to find in the vigorous vines early in the Bakersfield season!

Bell Peppers: We are picking green bells in better volume this week and we have Very High Quality on the first pick. Load volume with be available late in the week. The walls are a medium thickness and the color is good. We have the Barron "blocky" variety currently. Most of the volume is in Extra Large and Large sizing. We should have more of the popular "choice/chopper" fruit this week as we move through the fields.

Hot Peppers: Jalapenos look good and we grow a "hot" variety!( it burned my eyes ALL week) Slow steady picking all week. Serranos started last week and we have small pallet volume in stock.

Red, White and Yellow Onions: Check Nancy/Jack for your onion needs. The crop is packing with good quality and we can pack to your specifics on our computerized onion line.

Keep Fresh California Fruit in front of your customers!!!!!!

Hope to get some pictures of our items up on the blog this week.

Thank you for your support!!

Crop Update 4/22/10

Watermelons: Coachella: Report today from our harvest contractor: Melons in the first block size 10-15 lbs at this time will continue to grow and ripen. May 5-10 start date. Its been cool. Vines look good. The first 10-14 days will have low volume. May 20th on will have large volume.
Peppers: Plants are 6 inches and growing well. June 1 possible harvest date.
Onions: Now bulbing heavily in the early blocks/fields. Very uniform and color is good. Late May or early June harvest. Looks very healthy.
